October 2018 Enjoying MG Magazine Report

On July 22nd SMGEC held our annual BBQ run planned by Phil and Kath Wellstead along with Tony and Jan Clarke. 12 cars met up at the Strawberry Cabin at Manor Farm for coffee and breakfast before heading out on a 58 mile run through Warwickshire and Staffordshire to finish at Prestige MG at Rugeley, where owners Nikky and Andy Dewar laid on a warm welcome for us to eat and drink at leisure.

The 24th saw another of our popular evening Pub runs, this time to The Star Inn at Copmere End. Hosted by Chris and Lesley Wilkins, 12 members sat down to an excellent evening meal.

The August club night at the Barns at Huntington was well attended, after the meal Brian and June Cooper who have managed to lose their MG keys on three occasions were presented with a pair of giant 12 inch key fobs to hopefully prevent another mishap!!!

On August 12th, 12 cars visited a new venue, The Whittington Barracks Car Show held at the Staffordshire Regiment`s Museum near Lichfield. Meeting again at the Strawberry Cabin it was only a 5 mile run to the Museum. The forecasted rain kept down the entries but the Museum was well worth the visit with a guided tour of a recreated WW1trench system, a WW2 air raid shelter with realistic sound effects and the extensive display of the Regiments history. Thanks to Roy and Jane Hunt for really interesting trip.

The month closed with a coffee morning at the Denstone Hall farm shop and another successful evening pub run to The Oakley at Brewood where Richard and Susie Homer hosted 20 members to an excellent evening meal.

September 2018 Enjoying MG Magazine Report

Hello All,

I am the new Club secretary for SMGEC as Steve Smith has stepped down from the post. Thanks go to him for his time as secretary.

SMGEC had two excellent runs in June, on the 10th Alan and Karen Wild took 11 cars on a splendid run through Staffordshire to arrive at the Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust. We embarked on a narrow boat for a 45 minute guided tour of the historic lime stone caverns. Back on dry land we enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch to complete the day.

On the 24th 10 cars led by Peter and Janet Wallis travelled to The Bicester Flywheel Festival. The brilliant weather allowed us to enjoy the day in full, classic cars, track runs, classic aircraft displays and a full flypast display by the BBMF. A wonderful day and one definitely in the calendar for 2019.

July`s Club night at the Barns was “Cruise Ship Night” hosted by Roger and Sue Dudley. Members entered into the spirit with fancy dress and singing led by Paul Titley on the organ with a buffet supper completing an enjoyable evening.

On the 7th July 16 cars attended Cars in the Park at Lichfield, organised by Roger and Maureen Wood. The gazebos gave great shade and with bacon butties and cakes on tap a grand day was had by all.

The coffee morning at Brykley garden centre was well attended. John and Val Ravenscroft came in their new toy, a Lotus Elan FHC, not an MG, but such a pretty car!

The month ended on a sad note with news of the passing of club member Lesley Morgan after a long illness, our thoughts are with John and family at this sad time.
